Working for yourself is awesome, I’m so grateful that I made the leap 7 years ago —setting your own hours, choosing amazing clients, building something that’s yours. But let’s be honest, we love it so much that the hours can be long AND: it can also feel pretty lonely at times.
Since starting Happy Hippi Social Media, I began building an online network of fellow business owners, I tried in-person networking back in 2017/18 when I first went Freelance, but to be honest those meetings just weren’t for me. Pressurised, salesy and brought me out in sweats.
At the start of 2023, after chatting with a few amazing female founder friends who felt the same way nearby, I decided to set up a small, in-person meet-up. Nothing formal, no awkward pitches, no pressure to sell yourself, just a room full of brilliant business owners supporting each other over coffee and cake . I booked a venue for 12 people, thinking it might take a while to fill. But within days every seat was gone. Next meet up, we had to move across the road to fit everyone in, and that’s when I knew—this was something special.
